the end of an era

tita violy's despedida was as i saw it, the end of an era... the violy canteen era, that is. you ever have those tiny things in life that you are so used to... then suddenly in the blink of an eye, it's all gone? it felt that way. tita violy managed the canteen as far back as i can remember (she was already there when i first enrolled at SAID and it's just weird to see her leaving and everything in life seems to be changing. i think i need a change of scenery myself. but where to go?

disarray

you got it. mind is in disarray. just like my desk, my bed, etc. and it's just too bad you know? coz i got a lot of work to do. have nothing to write about today but will leave you with this poem that i wrote back when i was in college. a couple of you guys have probably seen this already.

I sit in a corner
watching the whole world go by
listening only with my eyes
and feeling everything with my heart

I may look like a loner
but that isn't so
I may seem depressed
but you'll never know

this feeling of peace
I could never quite describe
laughter and music
I may not understand

but I can feel happiness
from the smile on your face
I can feel love
from a warm embrace
I can feel sadness
when you shed a tear
I can feel all this
I just cannot hear

looking back

last january, i entered the new year with uncertainity about where my life was going. this year i look to the future WITH certainity on where i want to go but having no sense of direction (does anybody get what i'm saying?)
sooo.... looking back, 2004 will be one of the most memorable years of life. it was this year i learned a few things about me. first off, if i ever do get to go abroad and live my dream, i would know it's because i kicked ass last year. i finally got myself motivated, focused and really freaking determined. it was unbelievable. i continue to be amazed at myself.
well, amazement at self comes with its own dose of self-pity. there are times i just want to give up, i wonder what it is wrong with me, etc. but then i look back and say "s--t, i have gone a long way, there's no stopping now." and life just goes on. THAT and continued support from people i would say have kept patting me in the back and motivating me .... my tita lally and tita grace-- who keep telling me that "THIS IS IT!!", my soulmate jason-- i think we met for a reason, mate--- who keeps telling me "i know you can do it. i believe in you.", and my long time friend melissa who always says, "ate ruth, it's about time you're coming over." i think without all of them i would be satisfied with my life being what it was the year before (that is 2003!!). just work, masters, work, be with friends, be with family. quite content with complaining about what i lack and not doing anything about it.
i was gonna name my entry this week RAISE YOUR SIGN. you know, like in that movie RAISE YOUR VOICE. hehhehe. well, the tagline reads DON'T HOLD BACK. NEVER GIVE UP. and that quite sums up my attitude right now. there may be times i would be doing "PRETEND DANCING" though. this is a term i learned while reading the book, "AND GOD CRIED, TOO". my tutees had to read the book for their values education class. anyway, pretend dancing means you dance and be all happy even if you're really sad and don't feel like dancing. in life, i guess that means, putting up a brave face and being happy even if you're really crumbling inside. so.... somedays that's what i do.. pretend dance when there's nothing going on in my life, yet. then i get determined and start doing something about it again, email again and again to my contact, look for other sites to get info again... and then there would be something that will make me smile. you get this, guys? not sure if i my explaining is doing some justice to what i'm really trying to say. heh.
so i'm saying here... looking back, i would never have made it all this way if not for the people around me. looking back, i probably would have still be complaining and not doing anything if it wasn't for all of them people. especially jason who just turned my world upside down and introduced me to all sorts of stuff i never thought i would be doing ot even to going to places i never thought i would go to. so thanks, all. here's to another great year.
i'm going to make this year.... MY YEAR!!!!! (guilty of borrowing line from STUDIO 23. OH WELL.)
good night, world.

thoughts in sign or in words?

i had a friend that asked me if my thoughts are in "words" or in sign language. that pretty much made me think about it. hehehe. and since this is MY blog (stress on this, people) i thought i would discuss it here. didn't think about it until it was asked to me.
to be honest, there are times when my thoughts are in sign language. and i guess that's normal as it's my natural language. i feel more comfortable expressing myself when i am signing. i feel that sometimes what i say doesn't come out the way i want it to be when i am chose to use my voice... or i am more understood when i sign compared to using my voice.
does this all make sense??????
i'm hungry. will go make myself dinner. until later!!!

only in the philippines.....

.... will you see that mc donald's has rice meals, burger king has a beef tapa meal, sizzler's isn't really THE sizzler's, and jack-in-the-box doesn't sell fajitas.

..... people begin new year's day at 8 am on december 31. fireworks suddenly went vibrating(to you hearing, it went off) at that time and i thought "what the....???" of course, living in the philippines i pretty much expected it but it still shocks me every year.

..... during the new year, we wear clothes with polka dots (for luck with money), jump up and down (to be as tall as supermodels), eat circle shaped foods(for more, more luck with money), carry coins in our pockets (for more... you guessed it, luck with money) and put grapes in front of the door(guess why? yep, more luck with money). the fireworks?? i guess to start new year with a big, loud bang?

..... rain storms and the traffic that go with it are considered "normal".. HEHEHE.

..... and there's a law for us Deaf, blind, handicapped(refuse to say disabled as now fully aware am not disabled but clearly just part of the language minority) that is not practiced.
captioning isn't available for the Deaf and i think that should be fixed as the Deaf should be given the right to have access to information on TV. the blind can hear about the news, the crippled can just sit and listen to the news but the Deaf has to go find someone to interpret for them. does that seem fair now??

a happy new year to you.
